The Amazing Spider-Man has seen more than its fair share of criticism after the major reboot in "Brand New Day", but readers who have stuck with the wall crawler have been enjoying some solid storytelling, and the latest story arc, entitled "Shed", featured in Amazing Spider-Man issues 630 through 633 might just have spider-fans rushing back to their local comic shop to get a piece of the action.
Though there's only one major fight in the 4 issue storyline, there's plenty of violence and tense, gritty action to sate the appetite of anyone who thinks Spidey books are too soft.
Without ruining the story with spoilers, the storyline is throws another classic villain at Spider-Man, the Lizard. After the past six month's Gauntlet storyline where the descendants of Kraven the Hunter have been throwing a gallery of Spidey's classic foes in the web-head's path, Dr Curt Conners is the latest to get caught in the web.
Dr. Conners obsession with getting custody of his son is bringing out the cold blooded beast in his psyche and he's doing all he can to keep it in check. Problems beyond his control are keeping that from happening and the Lizard breaks loose, this time with some sort of telepathic ability to "unlock" the reptilian side of all humans and the streets of New York end up being engulfed in frenzied riots.
What happens along the way will shock a lot of readers, but the talented team of writers and artists including Zeb Wells and Chris Bachalo put the horrible tale on paper in a terrific way that will keep you gripped from start to finish.
As a long time Spider-Man reader, it's been a long time since I sat with my mouth hanging open at plot developments.

It is very difficult in today's commercialized world not to be familiar with Spider-Man. And it doesn't matter whether you have young school age children, you're in college or like me... you're as "old as dirt", we have all been exposed to this most unlikeliest of all "Super Heroes".
But if he is not a great super hero then why has his popularity grown ever since he was first introduced back in 1962? It seems as though we just can't get enough of him. Don't get me wrong, I am also a great fan of his, but Spider-Man (real name: Peter Parker) is not your typical super hero. I would even go so far as to say that he even challenges the definition of what a super hero really is.
Spider-Man does possess "special powers" - like being able to cling to any surface, "spider-quick" reflexes that operate up to 40 times faster than those of any normal person and an uncanny spider-sense, a tingling sensation in the back of his neck, which warns him of danger. But he also is very human.
What other super hero do you know that talks to himself, misses appointments, catches the flu - when he has to fight, forgets to put film in his camera (Peter is a photographer by trade) and he even has trouble paying his rent. And I believe that these are the things that make him our favorite hero. Because Spider-Man is the super hero that could be any one of us.
But did you know that as popular as Spider-Man is today - that he was originally a one-shot experiment for a dying comic book series and actually almost didn't even get into print at all because the editor in charge at Marvel Comics thought that people would be turned off reading about spiders. However, since the series was going to be terminated anyways, Goodman finally agreed to let Spider-Man debut in August of 1962 in Amazing Fantasy #15. And by 1970, Marvel Comics had become one of the dominant comic book publishers, with Spider-Man as their "flagship" series.
Introduced as Peter Parker, a nerdy science whiz kid, that was not only extremely shy but he was considered clumsy, uncoordinated and a big wimp, that was constantly being bullied.
Orphaned at the age of four, when his parents were killed in a plane crash, Peter was forced to live with his elderly Aunt May and Uncle Ben.
One day during a science demonstration Peter was bitten by a radio-active spider and as a result, he receives spider-like powers such as superior strength and lightning fast reflexes. However, being a super hero and saving people is not exactly what Peter had in mind. He was more interested in making money with his new powers as a professional wrestler, which brought him fame as a big TV star.
One day while at the studio, Peter was confronted by a burglar and instead of trying to catch him, Peter let him get away. After all, it wasn't his job to stop him - that was up to the police. It was the same thief that, a short time later, killed Peter's best friend, his Uncle Ben.
Peter now filled with guilt, over not stopping the person who killed his uncle. And it is that guilt that will drive Spider-Man through the rest of his career as a vigilante.
Spiderman Party Decorating Ideas
Your son has decided on a Spiderman themed party and for you that means the adventure begins way before the party starts. Decorating for a Spiderman Birthday Party can be simple or elaborate. A few simple tricks can take your party scene from drab to fab and doesn't have to cost a lot. Spiderman Party decorations are very popular and easy to come by, but if you want something different, here are a few suggestions.
Spiderman's basic colors are red, black and blue. Be sure to incorporate these colors along with spiders and web. Other notable Spiderman decorations can include the city backdrop, where he swings from building to building, the comic book and the Spiderman villains. Background Scene - Idea #1
Spiderman swings from building to building in New York City. You can replicate this effect by using large black construction paper, poster boards or cardboard. Cut different size rectangular shapes to represent the city buildings. Cut out windows in each building and tape yellow construction paper behind the board to have the lights on in the windows. Arrange the buildings in a random order to create the city skyline. Adhere to a blank wall. You can also print out Spiderman clipart and paste to the scene.
Background Scene - Idea #2
Create a comic book on your wall. You can use butcher paper as your comic book medium. You can create it yourself and then add to the wall or can make it a fun activity for the party goers. Draw or paste the black comic strip boxes on the butcher paper. Using clipart or pages from a coloring book cut out the characters you want in the comic strip. The kids can color the pages before you cut them out. You can put the comic strip together in several ways
1. Assign one box to each child and have them create the comic together. The first child starts it off and each child gets to add their part of the story based. It's a creative way for the children to use their imagination. They can paste their own colored pages to the comic. Be sure to have different pages of many characters to make the story interesting.
2. Similarly you can create the scenes but leave the captions empty. Have each child fill in a caption to create the story
3. You can also use the comic stripe as a pin the Spiderman in the comic. The concept would be the same as pin the tail on the donkey.
Spider Webs
Spider webs are synonymous with Spiderman so incorporating webs into your décor is a must. Whether you use leftover Halloween decorations or create your own webs. Spider webs can add the right touch to your party décor. If you have time and patience and would like to create your own spider webs, here are some suggestions.
Use crepe paper. Cut the crepe paper or streamers into long strips. Lay one strip on top of another to form an X. Now lay another strip on top of the x across the middle. Repeat the previous step but lay the strip in the other direction. You should have formed a "star" shape. Be sure to tape or glue the "star together before the next step. Now using strips half the length of the strips you used to used to make the star, tape the strips across the other strips to begin to from the web. The longer the star strips are the bigger the web will be. Glue paper spiders to the webs for an added effect.

Hang plastic spiders from web and the ceiling using string.
Decorate tables, finger sandwiches, cupcakes and more using toy spiders.

Hang Spiderman posters on walls
Dedicate a wall to the Spiderman Villains. Enlarge clipart and hang on walls.
Sprinkle red, black and blue confetti on tables.
Fill up red balloons and paint Spiderman's mask on them.
Make or purchase a life size Spiderman cut out. You can create a background scene or place a blank background. This is also a great place for photos.
Your decorating is only limited by your imagination. Even if you can't afford to purchase the Spiderman party decor or just choose not to, using the basic color scheme, webs and spiders are a must to create the perfect Spiderman Party scene.
